Herrenabend 2010
It’s now exactly two years since we moved from Rome back to Frankfurt. I’ve not been to the City of Angels since then. It’s where our little angel Lola was born.
When the taxi turned into Emilio Morosini, and drove down the street where we used to live in Trastevere and stopped right in front of our old house, I had to take a deep breath. I looked at the building and memories were rushing through my head.
It looked like time hadn’t touched Trastevere since we left. The police station, the little shoe shop, the garage and the small bar Roma Libera at the corner of Piazza San Cosimato, everything in the neighbourhood looked exactly the same. Now, I’m there again.
An old friend, Ilja invited me to the “Herrenabend 2010” in Rome. 10 guys, 3 days and 1 flat.
I must say that the group was a very funny mix of different characters. I enjoyed each of them a lot. We all had great fun to hang out together, and I strongly believe everybody felt the same.
I think the biggest surprise was Andrea, an old friend of mine. When I showed up at his new apartment in Trastevere, he could not believe that it was me standing in front of his entrance. As an old tradition continued, he pulled out a bottle of wine, and cooked an absolutely amazing dinner which we enjoyed on his picturesque new roof terrace with his lovely girlfriend Erika.
So, rewinding the last days in the eternal city, it was good to see that friendships haven’t changed and yes, it was quite emotional when I’d arrived in Trastevere with a tear in my eye, but left with a joyful smile on my face.
