At the beginning of June in 2017 we went on a road trip from Frankfurt towards Austria, on a 5-day tour through the stunning part of the Allgäu, a mountainous region in Bavaria, southern Germany. We, Martin, Basti, Tim and myself on 4 bikes. The goal was to spend time away from our computer and work. We are all surface simulation addicts and spend far too much time staring at a screen. So sharing a great time on the road, writing new stories and sharing old stories was what everybody was looking for.

On the first day, we left Frankfurt towards Kehl, close to Strasbourg, a 250km ride along the Rhine. From Kehl we went straight into the Black Forrest, heading down to the Feldberg, into the deep heart of the Black Forrest. Black Forrest roads are made for riding. Beautiful roads with some advanced curves challenged not only the bikes. A great ride with some stunning views of the valleys of this impressive and most beautiful countryside. Because of some engine problems, which we couldn’t fix on the way, we had to leave one bike behind at the small village of Bonndorf, where we stayed for two nights before we went on the next day, down to the Bodensee. After a nice ride around the Bodensee, we left to head east, straight into the Allgäu. A bad thunderstorm hit us on the way and made us stop and reconsider the next steps. By accident, we had found a small cabin, right into the middle of nowhere, where we decided to stay for the next days, to explore some stunning rides around this beautiful mountain scenery.

Knowing that this will become an extremely unique experience, Martin and I planned to bring our film- and photo gear, to capture some parts and moments along the adventure. A great decision made, as the trip wrote the story through different circumstances along the tour. You can plan shoots and scenes beforehand, you can scout locations beforehand, but what was happen spontaneously, was something we couldn’t predict. We never planed a thunderstorm, we never planed a break down of an engine. We never planed those amazing roads we found by accident or the most beautiful cabin in the middle of nowhere.

This story wasn’t planned at all. The only thing which was planned was the idea of friendship and driving south. We did expect the unexpected.  But we didn’t write it, we rode it.
