Ready in time to open the ski season around Salzburg I went down there to see my old friend Piers and his wife Jule. Both live in Salzburg for the last 2 years and enjoy the wide range of outdoor activities in summer and in winter. The snow came a bit earlier this year and invited us to go out playing in the snow on Saturday and Sunday.

Piers and I went out to an Irish pub on Friday night to exchange the news from the last 2 years. On Saturday morning Jule helped us to get prepared to go skiing inSchladming, where they had the opening day of the Planai ski resort. After some short rides we found out that the weather was in much better condition than we were. But we had great fun throwing ourbody’s around the track. Piers tested his new snowboard which he lately had bought in San Francisco and borrowed me his trick ski’s which are a tonne of fun to ride.

After the activity in the mountains, we all went pretty tired but also very satisfied from the fun we had, back to Salzburg. In the evening we visited with a friend of Jule a very nice brewery around the corner. After such a great day in the mountains I decided to postpone my trip back to Frankfurt on Sunday an to go for another ride the next day.

Some of Piers colleagues where going to a much bigger ski resort on Sunday, Kaprun, close to Zell am See. This resort is not only bigger than Schladming, it also goes up to 3000 meter, which allowed long runs from the glacier. With the muscle ache from the day before we tried to keep it easy on the first runs. But the fact that it wasconstantly snowing allowed some nice powder runs beside the open tracks. Only problem, the view. It was almost impossible to see or find the direction. Unexpected holes where taking me down quite often. Riding for the rest of the day on open tracks helped my body to not get damaged too much.

Overall another great day on ski’s and big thanks to Piers and Jule for taking me out there.
